The school is located on two campuses and is organised into four sections: Early Years and Lower School at Monterrico, and Middle School and Upper School at San Antonio, Miraflores.

Markham College aims to provide students with an academic education in English and Spanish leading to a high degree of success in a wide range of international public examinations.

Early Years

The Early Years section consists of Nursery, Pre-Kinder, Kinder and P1. The Nursery programme helps develop basic language skills and provides a solid base for the early introduction of English. Our young children are taught entirely in English, with the students fully immersed in the language. This teaching method has been shown to be a highly successful method of developing bilingual proficiency in young children.

Lower School

The Lower School covers the years P2 to P5, or Key Stage Two. Students come to Lower School from the Early Years Immersion Programme and begin their formal Spanish education in P2. In addition to high academic achievement, the Lower School places a strong emphasis on effort and seeks opportunities to recognise the progress made by all students. Lower School subjects are based on the English National Curriculum and the Peruvian Curriculum.

Middle School

In the Middle School, P6 and S1 students take a wide variety of classes: English, Spanish, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, French, Design and Technology, Art, Music, Computer Science, Drama, Personal and Social Education, Physical Education and Religion.

In S2 we introduce an element of specialisation, allowing students to choose 6 subjects from a group of 8, with the core subjects English, Spanish, Mathematics, Science, History and/or Geography, Personal and Social Education, Physical Education and Religion remaining compulsory.

Subject content and educational standards in the Middle School correlate closely with those required by the UK national curriculum. In addition, we have recently introduced a new, cross-curricular IMPACT course based on the development of skills and values for all students in the Middle School.

Upper School

In the Upper School, S3 and S4 are the IGCSE years. IGCSE stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education.

These courses are produced by the University of Cambridge in the UK and, at the end of the course, the examinations are sent to Cambridge to be marked. IGCSE courses are taken by over 2 million pupils in over 140 countries every year and are widely recognised by universities as providing evidence of high academic achievement.

In S5, students may choose to study either the National Programme or the IB Diploma Programme.

The IB Diploma Programme is probably the most rigorous academic programme of its type in the world. It is a 2-year programme taught almost entirely in English and is the best possible preparation for university both in Peru or abroad.

The National Programme is a 1-year course taught mainly, although not entirely, in Spanish, that prepares students for local university entrance examinations.
