Markham students lead COAR students in social initiative

Last 18 and 19 May, 11 of our S5 student leaders trained 94 students and 10 teachers from COAR-Ica (Colegio de Alto Rendimiento) in house-building projects. They managed to build and decorate five houses over the weekend! Our students did an incredible job of leading their groups and inspiring the COAR students who are now planning to run their own project in the future.

This effort is part of a larger initiative whereby Markham Trust and Markham College support training of students and teachers throughout Peru's COAR programme. The support project, started in 2015, has already worked with over 120 COAR students, 31 of who were fully sponsored in their service activities by the Markham Trust. The teaching staff of COAR in Puno, Pasco, Arequipa and Cuzco has also benefited from the training of our teachers. Two of our teachers, during their October 2017 vacation, kindly donated their personal time to visit the COAR schools of Arequipa and Cuzco to follow up on the work done in Lima.

This initiative is possible thanks to the commitment of our Markham College teachers, the leadership of our students and donations received by the Markham Trust from key stakeholders.
